Intermatic’s EJ500 timer switch replaces indoor standard and three-way wall switches. The EJ500 wires into a typical 120-volt electrical circuit. It controls both incandescent and fluorescent lights. The EJ500 astronomic feature automatically adjusts its timer settings to correspond with the changes in daylight length all year long. The EJ500’s digital screen displays the time, date, day of the week and year. Its manufacturer-supplied batteries, SR44/LR44 batteries, maintains the time of day and calender for up to 3 months of power interruption.
Turn off the electricity to the circuit the Intermatic EJ500 will control on the circuit breaker.
Strip 7/16 inch of the insulation from the ends of the insulated wires in the switch’s electrical box with wire strippers. Two insulated wires connect to plain switches and three insulated wires connect to three-way switches.
Twist the end of the EJ500’s black wire around the end of the electrical box’s white wire, the common wire. Screw a wire nut onto these wires.
Twist the top of the EJ500’s blue wire around the end of the electrical box’s black wire, the new wire. Screw a wire nut onto these wires.
Connect the EJ500’s red wire. If the EJ500 operates like or replaces a typical wall switch, then cap the tip of its red wire with a wire nut. If the EJ500 operates like or replaces a 3-way switch, then twist the tip of the EJ500’s red wire to the electrical box’s red wire, the switch leg wire, and secure them with a wire nut.
